At St. Andrew's Church of England Infant School, we have a clear understanding of the need for worship and opportunities for reflection. Therefore, every classroom within school has a reflection area to support the children in taking time for prayer and discussion. Each reflection area is unique to the classroom and the children's needs. We have noticed that our lives are very busy with lots of noise and we rarely stop and pause. Our reflection areas give children these moments. When God met Elijah, he did not speak through the strong wind, the earthquake or the fire, but in the gentle breeze (1 Kings 19 1-13). Jesus showed us the importance of retreating from our busy world. In Mark 1:35, we read about Jesus getting up early in the morning and going to find a place where he could pray alone. Perhaps helping our children to meet with God quietly may be one the most enduring gifts we can give them - it allows us to offer our children the chance to reflect and believe 'God is my Strength in Whom I trust'.
"The reflection area helps me to calm down and think about how I'm feeling. I touch a ball that goes big and small and this helps me." Alice
"I think about God when I use the reflection area. It makes me feel calm. I put a pebble in my hand and pray. I'm grateful for God." Charlie
"I feel relaxed when I pray to God. I thank God for my family." Rory
"Prayer is important. God is always there with you, when you are doing your work, and that makes me feel happy." Rupert
"God sent us his love and we respect him." Theo
"I think the reflection area is a church. It's so special. I pray to say thank you." Hayley
"I use the reflection area. I think about things I can't do yet but I'm getter better at like using the balance balls on the playground." Rory
