‘Learning, Caring and Growing Together in Faith’

Lunar New Year 2023

Lesson: EYFS

Class: Honeybees Year: 2022 - 2023

We have been busy this week learning all about Lunar New Year!

We have learnt all about the Chinese great race and how they named years after animals in order to measure time. They then 'Hot Seated' the cat to find out how he was feeling about not having a year named after him!

We have learnt new vocabulary linked to the story - Emperor, sly, slither, exhausted, year, 1st, 2nd and 3rd, lead and last.

The children have used our 'Babble Gabble' station to call each other up and retell the story. They have also retold the story using props in the small world and water tray.

In continuous provision children have:-

Made the Great Wall of China

Designed and made rafts from the story

Tasted food

Picked up noodles with chop sticks

Made dragons out of loose parts

Created Chinese symbols in sand and glitter

Used a new folding technique to make a dragon in our craft area
